Mathematical Recipe for Curbing Human Papillomavirus Transmission Dynamics

Abstract
A mathematical model for the transmission dynamics and control
of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) was developed incorporating
the impact of vaccination and condom usage. The effective
reproduction number (Rc) was obtained and used to find the
best recipe for curbing transmission of the disease. Using
Nigerian demographic data, numerical simulations revealed that
20% HPV vaccination coverage of sexually active individuals is
better than 75% condom usage on limiting the spread of HPV.
Furthermore, it revealed that vaccinating 30% of individuals who
are sexually active is a better way of curbing the disease than
vaccinating 75% of individuals that are not yet sexually active.
